Mothers Branch Update
Mothers Group Visits Austin Shrine
Last month, the Joyful Flowers of Mary group of Schoenstatt San Antonio’s Mothers Branch made a mini-pilgrimage to the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Schoenstatt in Austin, TX. Called the Bethlehem Cradle of Sanctity, the shrine was built only 10 years ago and sits atop a peaceful hill in the northwest part of the city.
Group members that made the pilgrimage were Christine Gonzalez, Liz Ayala, Sylvia Zapata and Loretta Charles, Diocesan Coordinator for the Mothers Branch.
The Mothers Branch for Schoenstatt Movement of San Antonio is made up small groups of women, all mothers, who come together at least once a month and strive to live up to Fr. Kentenich's teaching of community and outreach.
There are currently four groups in the San Antonio Mothers Branch. Three of them have adopted a name for their respective groups: Mary's Joyful Hearts (led by Rose Orsborn); Joyful Flowers of Mary (Christine Luna Gonzalez); and Unidas a Maria (led by Ninotshcka Greenfield). The fourth group, led by Mary Tamez, is contemplating their name.
Instead of having an October meeting, the Joyful Flowers of Mary group decided to make the pilgrimage to the Bethlehem Cradle of Nativity Shrine in Austin. It is located in a beautiful setting, high on a hill overlooking the hill country. They were blessed with great weather and were surrounded by nature and its beauty.
The group walked together on the Rosary Trail, prayed the rosary, offered one dozen red roses to the Blessed Mother, recited the Litany of Mary and spent some quiet time at the shrine.
“It was so beneficial to me, says Christine Luna Gonzalez, “to pull away from my daily life of busyness and reflect on what's important in life, prayer, reflection, petition and thanksgiving.”
Mothers are welcome to join one of the existing groups or even come together to form new groups. The Mothers Branch will provide a copy of the curriculum and support to help you get started. For more information, contact Christine Luna Gonzalez at (210) 393-5260.
